Welcome to the Division of Arts and Machine Creativity (AMC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Established in July 2024, the AMC serves as a unique cross-disciplinary hub where arts and technology converge to foster innovation and creativity.

In an era of rapid technological advancement, the synergy of arts and technology has become increasingly vital. Our division is dedicated to exploring this intersection, focusing on machine creativity, machine-assisted art practice, art management, and critical studies that examine the transformative impact of technology on artistic expression. By bridging these fields, we aim to cultivate a new generation of artists and technologists equipped to navigate and shape the future landscape of creative industries.

The AMC provides a robust educational environment emphasizing hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our programs are designed for students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging them to leverage emerging technologies, particularly generative artificial intelligence (AI), in their artistic endeavours. We offer taught postgraduate programs, including the Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA), blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare the next generation of leaders in managerial roles and creative practice. Additionally, our research postgraduate programs, including the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), focus on advanced research and scholarly exploration in arts and machine creativity.

Collaboration is at the heart of our mission. The AMC works closely with the Computational Media and Arts Thrust (CMA) at HKUST(GZ) through shared laboratories, joint faculty appointments, and shared courses. As a forward-looking and industry-facing academic unit, we engage with leading corporations and global partners in the field of Art + Tech to foster a vibrant ecosystem of knowledge exchange and innovation.
